“Sugar is toxic”
“Sugar is evil”
“Sugar is the leading killer”
We’ve heard it all, and the media makes it worse, so we want to help clear some things up for you.
One thing to keep in mind while you read this, is that we are not saying sugar is “good” and encouraging you to eat it by the truckload. We are just providing the truth about it, and how you can think about it, and not let it scare the shit out of you.
A lot of people ask, “how much sugar is too much”? Well that’s a hard question because “too much” would be depending on many factors.
-Are you getting in an adequate amount of fiber from your carbohydrate sources?
-Are you getting in your micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and other macros like protein and fat?
-Where are your calories falling at the end of the day?
THESE are what makes or breaks things when it comes to sugar intake.
A study showed that there was no difference in weight loss when people consumed 4 percent of their calories from sugar or 43 percent! That’s more than 10 times more sugar in the high-sugar group: 11 grams versus 118 grams. WHEN the other things mentioned above were controlled for.
If you’re taking in proper amounts of calories/macros/micros, your sugar intake doesn’t become a negative factor in your health. Be smart, don’t be scared.
